A couple of quick pointers about maxillary implants. This is a recipe for trouble. This case had several existing implants that were utilizing locators to retain a maxillary overdenture while older failed sites were healing.
Eventually, new implants were placed in a one stage fashion with tall healing abutments. The maxillary overdenture was then re-utilized as a healing prosthesis. An attempt was made to use a soft lining product to protect the healing implants.
Unfortunately this rarely if ever has a good outcome. The soft liner becomes hard as a rock, the prosthesis bottoms out on the implants and there are uncontrolled loads placed on unsplinted healing maxillary implants. Don’t do this people.
