This is a great illustration of the benefit of a core and surgical provisional. I am not showing the surgical steps here, just simply the progression from initial presentation of recurrent caries to core build up to surgical provisional.
Notice the core is built out as far circumferentially to the original margin as possible. During the refinement of the core, in preparation for surgery, minimal finish line is placed.
A surgical provisional is then fabricated, leaving hygiene accessibility to help with the condition of the tissue at the time of surgical correction.
